Meet Justa
Nine Seas Away takes its name from a Lithuanian expression used to describe somewhere unimaginably far away—much like saying "a million miles away." In Lithuanian folklore, the magical number nine, combined with the vastness of the sea, represents a journey across an immense and almost unreachable distance.
For me, it reflects my own journey from Lithuania to Scotland, and my passion for the traditional American craft of braided rug making.
For the past seventeen years, I have combined my love of textile art with a deep appreciation for the landscapes around me. Whether walking through ancient woodlands, climbing mountain paths, wandering rolling hills or exploring Scotland's rugged coastline, I find inspiration in the colours, textures and quiet moments that nature offers.
Every rug is hand braided and hand laced from wool, making each piece entirely unique. Through the traditional American braided rug-making technique, I hope to capture something of the places that have inspired me and transform those memories into lasting textile art.
Everywhere I go, I bring a little piece of the journey home—a photograph, a flower, a feather or a fallen twig. They become reminders of places visited, seasons experienced and moments worth remembering. In many ways, my rugs are another way of preserving those memories.
