Process of rug making

Wool you be mine?

This year, I am celebrating fifteen wonderful years since
I first moved to Scotland. What began as a little work-and-holiday trip, with a hopeful ‘‘I might be back someday’’, turned into a beautiful, unexpected journey I never wanted to leave. Starting out with very little, this year I was lucky to find my dream home.

Along the way, I met Lisa and Sam in a local coffee shop where I work. We all quickly bonded over our shared knowledge of nature and stories of moving to Scotland and leaving so much behind. This rug is more than just a piece - it is a symbol of how we put down roots and made Scotland our home.

This small rug began its life as a blanket, made from 100% Scottish wool in rich shades of red, green and hints of blue. The fabric itself reflects the locality of where we are now, while the red tones symbolise the root chakra - a sign of grounding and stability, greens and blues symbolise the colours of the foliage of trees.

Woollen rugs are celebrated for their durability and strength, yet they also bring natural warmth to any room. Much like our Slavic, Baltic and Scottish heritage, we are strong and resilient, but also warm and welcoming.

Each braid in this rug mirrors Lisa and Sam’s journey - two individuals from different cultures woven together into unity, creating a beautiful home, here in the Scottish Highlands.
